New Boots and Old Spurs are the identities of a cattleman who has come through the ranks from wrangler to foreman. He removes a boot as he drinks coffee with the cowboys. New Boots are like young horses; each needs its own time of break-in'-in". One boot always seems to be to tight or not fit just right.
The foreman bolds a "lady-leg spur" that seems to be the subject of discussion. Old spurs, cows, horses and ladies of the evening seem to be the topic of conversations around most cow camps.
